Role of Yoga in Anxiety

Sage Patanjali defined yoga as a ‘cessation of mental process’ and the ultimate aim of yoga or meditation, as particular, is to attain salvation. But nowadays, yoga is taken as therapy and not as a tool to attain liberation. Therapeutic effects of yoga are very much observable and effective. Many researchers in this context had being published and reviewed. These researches had showed the following results.

  • Brahma Kumari's Raja yoga meditation for 30 minutes daily improves happiness and quality of life.
  • Traditional Raja yoga meditation for 20 minutes daily reduces anxiety and have positive effect on stress anxiety and symptoms of depression
  • Mindful meditation gives relief in anxiety disorders and enhances job performance, job satisfaction and work engagement.
Thus we could see that in combating anxiety disorders asanas have very minimal role. Pranayama (breathing exercises) and meditation are main lead in this film.
